The same discounts are available for those who register by the Thursday before the meet. Friday and Saturday registration and payments will now be online also. This upgrade should make registration easier for all participants and will greatly increase our efficiency in putting the meet together.
At the close of the meet we’ll have our Awards ceremony for the meet followed by the crowning of the 2012 overall champions. The top Pro and top Amateur will have their Nationals registration and jumps paid for by FLCPA. We’ll also recognize the top amateur pilots who will move up in the ranks to compete as Pro’s next season.
Each year we’ve selected the season’s “most improved” pilot(s) and this year we’ll do it again. This recognition goes to the swooper who has shown the dedication to make themself a better and safer competitor. Last year Jeannie Anderson and Gage Galle. Who will take the honor this year?
The California district will hold its second meet of the year this Saturday May 19th, 2012 at Skydive Sacramento in Lincoln, CA. The pond is in great shape and we expect an increased number of competitors from the West Coast region. If you are interested in joining the league you still have an opportunity to do so as we’ll be taking the top 3 scores from the 4 meets. This is the last opportunity on the West Coast to get some training in before Nationals next month.
Register for the meet here at swoopleague.com under the California District. The courses are set up so come on out and lets get going!!! See you out there!
This years meet in Raeford was another great event. Thirty competitors showed up from around the US along with Yuri Chernechov from Ukraine who finished off his training trip to the US with this meet. There were Eighteen competitors in the amateur class and twelve in the Pro class. We started Saturday off with the mandatory practice round and continued with the Zone Accuracy event in zero-three mph tail winds. The distance event came next with some spectacular runs including a new North Carolina competition distance record set by Tommy Dellibac at 128.73 meters.
By Noon we into the speed event. Mike McGuire suffered an injury during the first round of speed after a hard landing by the bank of the pond. After a brief course closure we resumed to finish jumping by around three o’clock. The new North Carolina competition speed record was set by Tommy Dellibac with a time of 2.320 seconds.
After taking a break we met back at PK’s Bar and Grill for the awards and a delicious BBQ dinner. Tommy Dellibac took the Gold with 539.71 points. Kelsey Mizuer grabbed the silver with 530.51. and Greg Windmiller rounded out the top 3 with 522.97 points.
This meet we also ran a pro/am where we matched up pro competitor with amateur competitors to work together throughout the meet. At the end we added up each team’s score to seat a pro/am victor. It was great to see everyone working together throughout the day exchanging ideals and helping their fellow competitor. Bart Rogowski and Kelsey Mizuer took the top team spot.
Big thanks to Raeford Parachute Center for hosting, our spectacular staff of judges, John Hawke for ground logistics support, and league support provided by Performance Designs and Mirage Systems.
